Lighting the Way has assisted with the Foodbank of the Eastern Shore's Food pantry and Backpack programs.
The program serves more than 400 local children twice each month.
According to the Foodbank, more than 70 percent of students in all the elementary schools on the Eastern Share qualify for either free or reduced lunches. Accomack and Northampton Counties are two of the poorest in Virginia. Helping chronically hungry children in grades PreK- 7 on weekends will help their families to use limited financial resources for other critical needs.
Lighting the Way assists by volunteering to pack the non-perishable food items for each of the recipients.
