Prepaid metering is now available to residential members of A&N Electric Cooperative in eligible areas of the service territory.

Prepaid metering is a voluntary payment option, allowing co-op members to make payments into an account to cover the costs of future energy use. With prepaid billing, you pay for electricity in advance, how and when it’s convenient for you. Purchasing electricity before you use it gives you more flexibility and control over your electricity account. It allows you to better control your budget and pay how much you want, when you want, without the burden of security deposits or late fees.

Prepaid metering uses the same rates and monthly minimum charges all co-op members are charged, including any power cost adjustment in effect. Most charges are divided equally over 30 days. There are no additional costs associated with prepaid metering.

Members enrolled in prepaid metering will continue to receive a billing statement, if they so choose. Those members who receive energy assistance payments will have them applied as normal when they are received by the co-op. It's just like putting gas in your car’s fuel tank. Let’s say you have $40 to pay for a week’s worth of gasoline. You drive to the gas station, pump in $40 worth of gas and drive off. Throughout the week, you watch the gas gauge to see how much gas you have left. The more you drive, the more gas you use. By watching the gas gauge, you can tell if the gas remaining in the tank is enough to get you through to the end of the week. You become more prudent with your gas use and make informed decisions on when and how much to use. Prepaid Metering works in a similar way. Members become more in tune with their energy use and are able to pay as they go.

Prepaid Metering is available to residential members on Rate Schedule A-1 or A-2, unless they have a CTd meter, a Serious Medical Condition filed with the Cooperative or prefer to participate in:

  • Time-of-Use Rate Schedule
  • Net Metering
  • Budget Billing
  • AutoPay

It is preferred that members have a zero balance before enrolling in Prepaid Metering, however, accounts with past due balances may still be eligible.
