Load Management

What is load management?

Energy refers to electricity consumed by our consumers and is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh). Demand refers to the amount of electricity called for or “demanded” from an electrical system and is measured in kilowatts (kW). Both energy consumption and demand affect electric rates. Peak demand refers to the periods when electric consumers collectively use the most electricity. Generally, electricity prices are higher during demand peaks. By participating in load management, you assist in reducing the amount of power your Cooperative uses during peak times throughout the year which can help stabilize electric costs.

How does it work?

An A&N Electric Cooperative technician will make an appointment with you to install a load control receiver on your water heater. The cooperative monitors demand and weather data and when the demand reaches an extremely high level, our office sends a signal to the receiver to temporarily switch off power to your water heater for a period of time which is typically less than 4 hours. Water heaters provide efficient heat storage and, can still provide hot water for several hours under normal usage.

What will this cost me?

The program costs you nothing! Our goal is to provide reliable power at the lowest possible cost while encouraging energy efficiency. And you will be working in partnership with your Cooperative to reduce electric costs with the savings passed on to you, the member-owner! If for any reason you are dissatisfied, we will remove you from the program at no charge.

Complete the form, drop it by our office located at 21275 Lankford Highway in Tasley, or fax it to (757)787-9780 attention Patsy Goard or email the form to pgoard@anec.com.
