Copper Theft Targeting Co-op Lines
A&N Electric Cooperative, like other electric utilities, is experiencing an issue with copper theft in the area. Copper theft is a serious problem in our community that jeopardizes public safety and can lead to severe injury or even death.
Recently thieves have been targeting neutral distribution lines in Accomack County. The method used to remove the copper wire from the cooperative’s distribution poles is extremely dangerous. The thefts can also lead to electric service reliability issues.
Isolated, low-traffic areas of the distribution system are being targeted, due to their secluded nature.
The cooperative has reported the incidents to the Accomack county Sheriff’s Office.
A&N Electric Cooperative crews in clearly marked yellow trucks or the cooperative’s contractor Rock Creek Line Construction Inc., in clearly marked white bucket trucks, are the only ones authorized to work on the distribution lines.
A&N Electric Cooperative reminds our community members to be on the lookout for suspicious activity. If you suspect someone of copper theft please call the cooperative at (757) 787-9750 or the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office at (757) 787-1131. Any information members of the community can provide is appreciated.
